State Representatives Invite Governor Abbott's Megadonor To Testify Before Committee
Four members of the Texas House Committee on Public Education have formally invited Pennsylvania Billionaire, Jeff Yass, to testify before the committee regarding House Bill 3, Governor Greg Abbott's proposed private school voucher program.
Jeff Yass, over the past year, has donated approximately $12 million to Governor Abbott from his home in Pennsylvania. Since then, Abbott has made passing school choice in Texas his number one legislative priority.
Now, the committee wants to hear from the man behind the money.
In the letter to Yass, the members stated that he could join them in person or virtually to discuss House Bill 3.
They went on to state in the invitation that “Given your significant role in funding efforts to reshape Texas' public education system, we believe it is only appropriate that you explain your position directly to the people whose schools and communities your- money seeks to impact with school closures, program cuts, and teacher layoffs.”
What do you think? Should megadonors be required to testify when they donate millions of dollars to a cause?
