Texas approves bible curriculum for elementary school children

Last month, the Texas State Board of Education voted 8-7 in favor of allowing bible infused teachings in Texas elementary schools.

The optional "Bluebonnet Learning" curriculum incorporates Bible-based lessons in reading and language arts for grades K-5 and math for grades K-8.

The curriculum is not required to be adopted, but schools that adopt the new curriculum will receive an added financial incentive of $60 per student.

Many supporters of the curriculum have come to the defense of it, stating that the Bible is a fundamental piece of American history and that teaching it will only enrich lessons.

K-5 schools will be able to begin implementing the new curriculum as early as next school year.
