New Furries Act Would Ban, Barking, Meowing, & Non-human Behavior In Schools

A new Texas bill, known as the FURRIES Act (The Forbidding Unlawful Representation of Roleplaying in Education), is aiming to ban non-human behaviors in public schools, including the use of litter boxes and wearing animal accessories.

So what are Furries? Furries are individuals who have an interest in anthropomorphic animals (animals with human characteristics) and often create a "fursona," which is an alternate persona of an animal character they identify with, engaging in a fandom that includes art, roleplaying, and costume creation (fursuits).

Many individuals have taken their "fursonas" to extreme levels. With reports of some students requesting a litter box be placed provided in bathrooms for them.

The bill prohibits students from presenting themselves as anything other than human, with exemptions for events like Halloween.

Students who violate the law could face suspension, expulsion, or placement in a juvenile justice education program.

Educators who fail to enforce the law could face fines, with penalties starting at $10,000.
